Kyodo News have posted an interesting story about Fujifilm planing to reduce its digital camera shipment outlook for fiscal year 2003 by 500,000, fearing it will become difficult to procure components manufactured in China due to the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Fujifilm Japan has today announced that its first digital camera based on the high dynamic range SuperCCD SR sensor has been delayed until 'Summer 2003'. The announcement notes that originally Fujifilm had hoped to release the camera in May but has had to delay the camera until the Summer. The reason given is "A delay in material procurement". The FinePix F700 has a 3.14 million pixel SuperCCD SR sensor, which should give it the ability to reproduce a much higher dynamic range (dark to light). Find out more about the new technology.
Late last year Sony launched the Memory Stick Duo, a half sized stick that enables the realization of ultra-compact, wearable devices. Very shortly they will release the Memory Stick PRO media to meet the need for higher capacity with 1GB, 512MB and 256MB. Developed jointly by Sony and SanDisk Corporation, this new-generation Memory Stick format will offer a number of advanced functions in the future, with expandability to accommodate a wide range of applications, such as recording of high-resolution moving images.
Fujifilm announced two new SuperCCD sensors. The SuperCCD HR becomes the first compact size sensor to break through the five megapixel barrier, the SuperCCD HR has six million effective pixels with an output size of twelve megapixels. Slightly more interesting is the new SuperCCD SR, this new sensor is designed to deliver images with far higher dynamic range, indeed Fujifilm are claiming that SuperCCD SR comes close to negative film in this respect. type'HR' and type'SR'
Samsung has announced their new SCD5000 combined MiniDV camcorder and four megapixel digital camera. Digital Video is recorded directly to MiniDV tape, digital stills to Memory Stick. read more

Consumer Magazine selected nine competitively priced photo labs charging $2 or less per print, and anonymously emailed them a single photo. This photo was taken at 1600x1200 resolution, with a size ratio of 3:4. They asked the labs to print it at 4x6 inches, with no other instructions.
